If you can open a PDF with its password, DePDF lets you save a copy that no longer asks for that password. It is useful for documents you open often or need to organize in your own archive.
Remove the password in three steps
- Open DePDF and choose your password-protected PDF, or drag it into the upload area.
- Enter the password you normally use to open the document. Use “Show password” to check for typing mistakes.
- Select “Remove password.” Your browser will start downloading an unlocked copy with
depdf-added to the original filename.
What happens to the original?
Your original file stays where it is. DePDF creates a separate download, so you can keep both versions. Open the downloaded copy to check that it works before deleting or replacing anything.
Do I need to know the password?
Yes. This tool requires a password and does not recover forgotten passwords. If you do not know it, ask the person or organization that sent the document.
If the file does not unlock
Check that you selected the right PDF and entered its password exactly, including capitalization and spaces. If the password works elsewhere but the file still fails here, try a fresh copy of the original. Some damaged or unsupported files may not process successfully.
