If a PDF password is not working in DePDF, first check whether it opens the original document in your usual PDF viewer. This helps separate a password problem from a file or browser processing problem.
The tool says “Password required”
Enter the password used to open the PDF. DePDF’s form requires a non-empty password. It does not offer a forgotten-password recovery mode, and it cannot tell you the password from the filename.
The password is rejected
Check capitalization, punctuation, and leading or trailing spaces. Use “Show password” to inspect your entry. When copying from an email, make sure you have not included surrounding text or a line break. Confirm that the password belongs to this particular document, especially if you have several statements from different months.
The PDF opens elsewhere but will not unlock here
Try downloading a fresh copy of the original and selecting it again. An incomplete or damaged PDF may not process correctly. A large file may also exceed your browser’s available memory. If the file keeps failing, ask the sender for another copy or an unlocked version they are authorized to provide.
The PDF opens without a password but has restrictions
A document that opens normally but restricts an action is a different situation from a document that asks for a password before opening. DePDF currently asks for a password in either case. Contact the document owner for the appropriate password or a copy with the permissions you need.
The tool finished, but you cannot find the download
Check the browser’s downloads list for a PDF whose filename begins with depdf-. Your browser may ask you to approve or choose a location for the download. Open that new file, rather than the original, when checking whether password removal worked.
Can you unlock a PDF without the password?
DePDF cannot recover or guess a forgotten PDF password. Ask the sender for the correct password. For the normal workflow once you have it, follow how to remove a password from a PDF.
