Many document tools ask you to upload a file for processing. DePDF runs the PDF processing code in your browser, so the selected document does not need to leave your device to have its password removed.
How local processing works
When you open DePDF, your browser loads the website and its PDF processing engine. After you choose a file and supply its password, the engine reads the document in browser memory and produces an unlocked PDF for download.
The PDF and password are not sent to a conversion server. Loading the website still involves network requests, and the site includes Vercel web analytics. Local document processing should not be confused with a promise that visiting the site generates no network traffic.
Try it with your PDF
- Open the password remover in your browser.
- Select a PDF you are authorized to unlock.
- Enter its existing password and select “Remove password.”
- Save and check the unlocked copy.
Practical limits
Your browser needs enough memory to process the file, so large documents may take longer or fail on devices with limited memory. The tool requires the existing password; it does not crack encryption or recover forgotten passwords.
After the download
The new copy no longer has password protection. Anyone who can access that copy may be able to read it. Keep it in a suitable location and retain the protected original when useful.
