If you have a password-protected PDF on your phone, DePDF gives you a browser-based way to create an unlocked copy. You need the document’s current password and a browser that supports JavaScript and WebAssembly.
Make the PDF available in your file picker
If the document arrived in email or a messaging app, save it to a location your phone’s file picker can access first. Keep the password handy. The exact save and download controls depend on your phone, browser, and the app that contains the original file.
Remove the PDF password on your phone
- Open DePDF in your mobile browser.
- Tap “Choose a PDF or drop it here” and select the document from the file picker.
- Enter the existing password exactly. If you paste it, check for an extra space at the beginning or end.
- Tap “Remove password” and keep the page open while it processes.
- Use your browser’s download controls to find or save the unlocked copy, then open it to check the result.
Finding the downloaded document
Look for a filename beginning with depdf-. Depending on your browser settings, you may see a download prompt or need to open the browser’s downloads list. DePDF does not replace the original in your email, messaging app, or file storage.
Working with larger PDFs
PDF processing uses your device’s memory. If a large file fails or the browser closes the page, try the same document on a computer with more available memory. There is no server conversion to fall back to: the selected document is processed locally.
Before you share the unlocked copy
